Welcome to West Wood Yurts

Picture
Welcome to West Wood Yurts: 'the small campsite on a large estate'. Our yurts are nestled into a beautiful, secluded woodland glade of Cut Thorn Farm in a quiet corner of National Trust Gibside. We have just six yurts in our yurt village: 2 large yurts for sleeping up to six people and 4 small yurts for sleeping up to four people. Camping at West Wood Yurts is a truly unique experience. We offer short weekday or weekend breaks or week long breaks...or more! We cater for large group bookings (you can book the whole site for yourselves!), family and friends holidays and couples getaways. There are plenty of things to do throughout the duration of your stay at West Wood Yurts...for a start all of our yurt camping guests get complimentary access to National Trust Gibside, even after the doors close to the public! Don't miss out, make a booking enquiry today!

All of our yurts are real Mongolian gers, made from natural wood and traditionally hand painted. Each has a waterproof jacket over a thick felt lining to ensure a cozy interior. Guests can star gaze on a clear night through the transparent crown in the centre of the yurt!

As a working farm on the Gibside estate, the land at Cut Thorn has been farmed by the Gibson family for generations. It is currently managed by Alastair Gibson who keeps a heard of Beef Shorhorn Cattle and about 300 sheep.

Further, we are installing a number of free activities on site for children to take part in including a den building area, a rope swing and nature explorer backpacks.
