Welcome to West Wood Yurts, a cosy campsite on an enchanted estate...
West Wood Yurts is a luxury camping experience situated in a beautiful, secluded woodland glade in a quite corner of Cut Thorn Farm at National Trust Gibside. It was set up in 2010 as a farm diversification project at Gibside's Cut Thorn Farm and has since continued to support the main farm business of breeding Beef Shorthorn Cattle. West Wood Yurts comprises of six generously spaced yurts: 2 large yurts for sleeping up to six people and 4 small yurts for sleeping up to four people. Camping at West Wood Yurts is a truly unique experience. Our yurts are real Mongolian Gers, which have been traditionally hand painted in colourful patterns to give them an authentic feel. Insulated by sheep wool, the yurts are exceptional at holding heat produced by the log burners, making them a cosy and comfortable space from which you can look up through the skylights and enjoy a night under the stars! Our yurts are very well equipped so you will find you don't have to bring as much with you as when you go traditional camping: this is the 'luxury' of the yurt camping experience! We cater for large group bookings (you can book the whole site for yourselves!), family and friends holidays and couples getaways. There are plenty of things to do throughout the duration of your stay at West Wood Yurts...for a start entry to the Gibside estate is included in the booking price and our yurt camping guests can access National Trust Gibside throughout the duration of their stay, even after the doors close to the public!

Cut Thorn Farm
Cut Thorn is a working farm on the Gibside estate. The land at Cut Thorn has been farmed by the Gibson family for generations. It is currently managed by Alastair Gibson who keeps a herd of Beef Shorthorn Cattle and about 300 sheep.
