Where to find West Wood Yurts

West Wood Yurts is located in a quiet corner of Cut Thorn Farm at National Trust Gibside in the lower Derwent Valley between Rowlands Gill and Burnopfield, on the outskirts of Gateshead in North East England.

West Wood Yurts is easily accessible by road via Hillhead Lane leading from Fellside Road. Our postcode is NE16 6AA, we would advise that you enter this into Google Maps and print directions before you travel. Alternatively, you can follow this link

Please note: To access West Wood Yurts by road you DO NOT go to the main entrance of National Trust Gibside! Please follow the instructions provided to access West Wood Yurts by road.

By road...

From the North:

    After crossing the River Tyne, take the A694 exit from the A1 toward B6317/Consett/Whickham/Swalwell.
    At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Derwenthaugh Rd/A694.
    At the Roundabout take the 1st exit onto Hexham Rd/B637.
    After 0.3mi turn right onto Swalwell Bank/B6317.
    After 0.7mi turn right onto Fellside Rd.
    After 2.2mi turn right onto Hillhead Ln (look for Camping and Caravanning Club signs).
    Go through the gate at the top of the hill (look for Camping and Caravanning Club signs) to access West Wood Yurts.

From the South/East:

    From the A1 (at Team Valley) exit onto Lobley Hill Rd/A692.
    Keep left at the fork and continue to follow the A692.
    After 0.4mi turn right onto Fellside Rd (at the Pack Horse pub).
    After 0.9mi turn left onto Hillhead Ln (look for Camping and Caravanning Club signs).
    Go through the gate at the top of the hill (look for Camping and Caravanning Club signs) to access West Wood Yurts.

From the South/West:

    From the A692, turn right onto Fellside Rd immediately after the Pack Horse pub.
    After 0.9mi turn left onto Hillhead Ln (look for Camping and Caravanning Club signs).
    Go through the gate at the top of the hill (look for Camping and Caravanning Club signs) to access West Wood Yurts.

    From the A694, turn onto Burnopfield Rd/B6314.
    Turn left onto Lobley Hill Rd/A629.
    Take the 1st left onto Fellside Rd, immediately after the Pack Horse pub.
    After 0.9mi turn left onto Hillhead Ln (look for Camping and Caravanning Club signs).
    Go through the gate at the top of the hill (look for Camping and Caravanning Club signs) to access West Wood Yurts.

By public transport...

West Wood Yurts is also easily accessible by public transport. 'Red Kite' buses 45, 46, 47 run every 15 minutes between Newcastle and Consett, passing the railway station. Alight at Rowlands Gill for a 10 minute walk to National Trust Gibside and then enjoy a short scenic walk through the grounds to West Wood Yurts.
