The Derwent WalkThe Derwent Walk is a linear route between Consett and Swalwell, which passes through Rowlands Gill by National Trust Gibside. It follows the track of the old Derwent Valley Railway, 11 miles (18km) long from Consett in the south to Swalwell in the north. From the Derwent Walk near Rowlands Gill there are panoramic views of National Trust Gibside. The route passes many other places of interest including: Hollinside Manor, Derwenthaugh Park, Clockburn Lonnen, Axwell Hall, Nine Arches Viaduct, Friarside Chapel, the Northern Kites Project, the Butterfly Bridge and Winlaton Mill.

St James' ParkSt James' Park is the home of Newcastle United Football Club and is the sixth largest football stadium in the UK with a capacity of over 52,000. Located in the centre of Newcastle, its white cantilever roof is visible across the city and is the largest cantilever in Europe. As a point of interest, St James' Park will be used as a football venue for the 2012 Olympic Games. Gateshead International StadiumGateshead International Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium, with a capacity of 11,800 all seated. Primarily set up for athletics, it also houses a running track, outdoor pitches and caters for Rugby, Football and American Football. On site there is also an indoor athletics hall, state of the art fitness room and a sports hall. The stadium is the site of the Academy of Sport for Gateshead College. Silksworth Sports Complex and Ski SlopeThe Silksworth Sports Complex and Ski Slope covers the former Silksworth Colliery Site. Silksworth has three dry ski slopes, a 165m main slope serviced by two tow lifts and two nursery slopes available for skiing and snowboarding tuition. The sports complex includes an outdoor athletics track, two full sized astro-turf sports pitches, an outdoor play area, an angling lake and a skate park. Wet 'n' WildWet 'n' Wild is the largest indoor water park in the UK, located in North Shields. It features numerous water slides, a wave machine and rapids.
