'I'd prefer to keep it secret'
Westwood yurts are wonderful but don't tell anyone 'cos I don't want booking a yurt to get too tricky! I went with my husband and children (aged 6 & 7). We all loved it. It was Easter and we had a snow blizzard. Tucked up in the yurt with my daughter with the wood burning stove kicking out heat we watched through the open door as my husband and son appeared out of the woods with arms full of wood as the snow just began to fall. As the blizzard took hold we could not cook outside but made a delicious stew on the top of the stove in the yurt. Owners are helpful, booking easy, free entry to Gibside a bonus and toilet and washing facilities are clean and adequate. Not having a peak season price is also very welcome. A really wonderful holiday, despite the weather.

'Everything we hoped it would be'
For those used to camping - this is glamping and it is wonderful. The site is lovely - just 6 yurts, well spaced out and miles from the road, so very quiet - the field next to the site had cows and sheep, my boys loved feeding grass to the cows. The Gibside estate is accessible 24/7 from the site about 100yds down the hill through the woods. Very close by is the Gibside West Wood den building area - my boys spent hours making log cabins and wigwams. We will definately be back! from Mattyandco via Trip Advisor September 2012

'We will definitely be booking the yurts again as they made camping fun and easy for the whole family!'

'Had the best family/friends gathering we have ever had'
We booked the whole yurt village all 6 tents 2 weeks ago and had the best family/friends gathering we have ever had.  The kids had a brilliant time all playing together and spent hours building a team den whilst we all enjoyed serious chill-out time, cooking and having a wee tipple together.  The night times were amazing super snug even when the weather came in.  It was great value and its just the best setting we have ever visited and to have it all to ourselves was very special.  We will be back soon and looking forward to seeing more garden restoration work at Gibside and all the planned developments on the farm, thank you Alastair and Jenny!!

'Interesting experience'
This was a great experience for a night away. We stayed in one of the larger yurts which had two double beds and two singles and it was surprisingly roomy inside. The woodburner was great and kept the place warm and comfortable. Facilities were clean and more than adequate. Bonus of this site is being able to access Gibside (for free) when the place is open but also when it is closed - rope challenge was a hit with the kids. We stayed on a Friday which coincided with the Gibside Friday beer garden - even though it rained and we had to sit inside it had a great atmosphere and had reasonably priced real ale and wine.

'Didn't want to leave'
What a great stay at West Wood Yurts! My husband, two sons (10 and 6) and I recently spent a week at this idyllic campsite. The yurt has everything you could possibly want and need - you just rock up with food, a torch, firelighters and bedding - the rest is provided! We stayed in a small yurt, which had ample space for our family - the weather wasn't fab - but we were nice, warm and cosy...honestly, the accommodation surpassed my expectations. As it's on an NT site, there is loads for the family to do...and sitting on the deck, eating dinner whilst watching the cows and sheep graze is very relaxing. One warning though - you won't want to leave!!! Will definitely return and will definitely tell all my friends! from Sarcarroll via Trip Advisor August 2012
